Freethinker Research Fellowship for International Scholarship in Germany, 2018

The Volkswagen Foundation is requesting Freethinker Fellowships to follow research. International students are allowed to apply for this Research Fellowships programme.

The non-benefits Volkswagen Foundation helps research projects in all disciplines. In the context of changing funding resourcefulness, it gives targeted momentum to science.

Scholarship Description:

Freethinker Research Fellowship

• The Application should be submitted before die date which is October 11, 2018. 
• The Study Subject of the Fellowships is rewarded in all subjects’ areas. 
• The Course Level of the Fellowships is obtainable to pursue research. 
• The Benefits of the scholarship A second funding period of 2 or 3 years is possible, whereby the total funding period (incl. the first funding phase) is a maximum of 8 years, the funding phase ranges between 0.5 and 1 million euros, the total funding for both funding periods should not exceed EUR 2.2 million. 
• The Scholarship is allowed to all Nationality or International students to apply fellowship programme.
• The Number of Scholarships is awarded every year, 10 to 15 free-spirit fellowships are rewarded. The number of permits is dependent the quality of the applications and the precise of the projects for the orientation of the Funding resourcefulness. 
• This Scholarship will be given in Germany. 
• The Host Institute of the Scholarship is Volkswagen Foundation. 
• The Course level of the Scholarship is begin in 2019. 

Eligibility Criteria:

The Applicant must meet the following Criteria:

• A free-spirit fellowship can apply for who identifies and knows what the goal is Research project corresponds to the specific orientation of the Freigeist initiative. The following formal requirements are also placed on the applicants: 
• Promotion is minimum 1 year and max. 4 years back (referring to the date of the exam [Disputation / Rigorosum] in relation to the deadline of the call for tenders). 
• Integration into a university or non-university research institution in Germany with the commencing of the Fellowship. 
• Already completed change of the academic atmosphere & place, at the latest with the commencing of the Fellowship (Return to working context of the doctoral phase only in exceptional cases). 
• Already completed stay abroad, at the latest integrated into the requested project.
• The Applicant should have command in English Language so that continue his further study.

Procedure of Application:

Applicant submits your application electronically via the application portal of the Volkswagen Foundation on. The following information is needed:

Forms filled out in the application portal with information on the applicant, the beneficiary of the grant (Destination institution), title, duration & legal explanation. Also for the cost plan, there is a Form (“Budget”) that you fill out online.

Please pay intension to the personnel costs their average sentences stored in a pdf document.

The following documents are in the application portal as attachments (pdf files, in English, if not stated otherwise):

Application cover sheet signed by the applicant (after entering all Generate data in the application portal; please print, sign and scan).

• Summary of the project in German (maximum 1 page)
• Summary of the project in English (maximum 1 page
• Cover letter with self-assessment “Why free spirit?” (Maximum 2 pages)
• Clear, understandable and creative presentation of the project idea for interested people
• Layman, z. Eg video, podcast, cartoon, newspaper article, etc. (maximum 2 minutes / 1 page).
